This year’s Rare Plant Fair held at the lovely Rustenberg Wines estate proved, once again, to be a very enjoyable day out. Even you aren’t blessed with the green thumb the fair holds plenty of interest, if only to have a look at plants you may not have encountered before. Keep a look out for plans for the 2014 fair. Now, given that I don’t have the greenest of thumbs, nor the time to devote to more needy plants, succulents offer a very interesting compromise. Not only are they hardy and undemanding, but they come in a spectacular array of shapes, sizes and colours. Careful though, some have a tendency to bite!
